JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MONBUKAGAKUSHO: MEXT) SCHOLARSHIP FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2010

The Monbukagakusho: MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Government
of Japan) offers scholarships to Malaysian students who wish to study at Japanese universities as
undergraduate students under the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho) Scholarship Program for the
academic year 2010. Applicants must be Malaysian citizens and meet the qualifications stated below:
1. FIELD OF STUDY
Social Sciences and Humanities
Law, Politics, Economics, Business Administration, Pedagogy, Sociology, Literature, History,
Japanese Language and et cetera.
Nature Sciences A
Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Agriculture Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture,
Environmental Engineering, Applied Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Chemistry, Textile
Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mercantile Marine, Biotechnology and et
cetera.
Nature Sciences B
Agriculture, Agricultural Chemistry, Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Forestry, Food Science,
Fisheries, Pharmacy, Hygienic, Nursing, Biology, Medicine, Dentistry and et cetera.
2. TENURE OF SCHOLARSHIP
The tenure of scholarship is 5 years except for Medicine and Dentistry 7 years as from April 2010
inclusive of 1-year intensive Japanese language Course. The grantee who has graduated and been
admitted into the master!s course of a graduate school during the term of scholarship could have
his/her term of scholarship extended as a result of selection. Scholarship term will be extended for
two years at the maximum, and no extension shall be made beyond this period.
3. QUALIFICATIONS
Age: Applicants must be from seventeen (17) to twenty-two (22) years old as of 1 April, 2010 (i.e. born between 2nd April, 1988 and 1st April, 1993).
Academic Background: Applicants must have completed SPM or O-level with at least eleven (11) years of formal education (excluding remove class). STPM students (lower or upper) and those who will sit for A-Level, Diploma, SUEC or Matriculation examination this year may also apply, provided that the results will be known by March 2010.
Academic requirement: A (SPM/ SUEC/ Matriculation) or B+ (STPM/A-Level) or CGPA 3.4 (Diploma) or A/LC(Matriculation), in English/MUET (5 or 6), Mathematics, Chemistry & Physics/ Biology for those applying for Natural Science A and B; and English/MUET (5 or 6) & Mathematics for those applying for Social Science & Humanities courses.
Japanese Language: Applicants must (be willing to) learn the Japanese language and (to) receive university education in the Japanese language.
4. ALLOWANCES
Estimated monthly allowances of 134,000 yen (subject to change) will be given to each grantee during the term of his / her scholarship. Fees for the entrance examination, matriculation and tuition at universities will be exempted.
5. EXAMINATION
After the scanning of preliminary forms, only eligible applicants will be notified to sit for a written examination in Kuala Lumpur on tentatively on 24 May 2009 (subject to change). Short-listed candidates will be called for an interview based on the results of the written examination.

Selection will be basically done by the results of all subjects except Japanese Language, but if you get a certain score on Japanese language, you will have added advantage.
6. APPLICATION PROCEDURE AND IMPORTANT NOTE
Attachment: Please attach a certified copy of SPM or O-Level or STPM+MUET or A-Level+MUET or SUEC or Matriculation examination result with the fully completed form.
(Those who will sit for SUEC examination this year, please attach a certified copy of Senior Middle 2 school examination results.) Field of Study: Applicants must state very clearly either {Social Science & Humanities},
{Nature Science A} or {Nature Science B} on the top right-hand of the application form. Educational Background: Please fill in ALL columns, DO NOT leave any column BLANK. Number of Submission: Only ONE (1) application per individual. Closing Date: Your application form must reach the Embassy of Japan before 4:00 p.m. 7 April 2009 (Tuesday) to qualify.
